Al-Allamah al-Ḥilli's Mabadi? al-wuṣul ila ?ilm al-uṣul is a testament to the revival of Shi?i scholarship in the seventh and eighth centuries of the Hijrah. This highly-condensed text set the standard for the subsequent development and discussion of Imami Shi?i legal theory (uṣul al-fiqh), such that its influence can be traced through to modern times. This is the first Arabic critical edition of any of al-?Allamah al-Ḥilli's jurisprudential works published to date. It is based on six manuscripts, four of which date from the lifetime of the author, and comes with a full Arabic Apparatus Criticus. It will be indispensable for all serious scholars of Imami Shi?i legal theory.
