Stone, his life and activities as a loyal and public-spirited American citizen; his contributions by voice and pen to the advancement of the cause of liberty and of freedom of speech and of the press as furthered by a clean, responsible, efficient, and courageous American journalism; and more particularly his work for and in The Associated Press, to whose character, growth, and achievements he has contributed so much of fidelity, industry, and inspiration.
