Publisher's Synopsis

Lying Prophets is a novel written by Eden Phillpotts and originally published in 1897. The story follows the life of a young man named Tom Barland who is a struggling artist. Tom is in love with a woman named Greta, but she is engaged to a wealthy man named Sir John Charrington. Tom becomes involved in a religious cult led by a charismatic leader named Ezekiel Endicott. Endicott promises his followers that they will be able to communicate with the dead and perform miracles. Tom becomes increasingly involved in the cult and begins to believe that he has special powers. However, he soon realizes that Endicott is a fraud and that the cult is a scam. Tom must confront his own beliefs and come to terms with the fact that he has been deceived. The novel explores themes of faith, deception, and the dangers of blindly following charismatic leaders. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
