Publisher's Synopsis
Institutional political analysis of the governance problem, understood as the challenges and difficulties that progressive parties of the masses face when they assume power over the state. The author takes Luis Ignacio Lula de Silva's two administrations in Brazil (from 2003 to 2006 and 2007 to 2010) as paradigm examples, as well as his relationship to the Workers Party (PT). It analyzes how a political party, characterized by its radical progressive agenda for socioeconomic redistribution and participatory democracy, once in power adopts orthodox economic politics, makes legislative alliances with conservative parties, alters its relationship with social movements and sets aside the participatory agenda, in favor of the party, getting international support and applying progressive social policies.
