Publisher's Synopsis

These are excerpts of Charley Beauregard's love letters from his time during World War II, which have been lovingly transcribed by his youngest child. Charley was 22 years old, and had recently graduated from Loyola University, in Chicago, when he was given his naval assignment, in the Fall of 1941, at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. Shortly before being sent to Pearl Harbor, he had begun dating Ethel. So began a long distance romance through letters, that continued until the end of World War II. Shortly after arriving at Pearl Harbor, in November of 1941, Charley described the territory of Hawaii as a paradise. That image was forever destroyed for him, a few weeks later, on December 7th. Charley and his love, Ethel, were married in October 1943, while his ship was in California, getting an overhaul. After an extended honeymoon, which was highly unusual during the middle of the war, they were not together again until 18 months later. Writing letters was the primary source of communication between the servicemen and their loved ones. This book contains excerpts of his love letters, written throughout his war time experiences. Being able to express his emotions had become his life line to his love back home.
