Publisher's Synopsis

Researching Louisiana Civil War Soldiers is particularly problematic because many of the records have been lost and little work has been done other than the compilation done by Andrew B. Booth entitled "Records and Louisiana Confederate Soldiers and Confederate Commands." Booth's work contains the service records of over 90,000 men who served in the Civil War from Louisiana. The National Archives index contains 126,000 names, many with alternate spellings and men who served in multiple units. This index contains 92.435 names of Confederate Soldiers from Louisiana. Fourteen additional units were formed in Louisiana for U.S. service. Their names are not included in this index. Booth often used unit names which are ambiguous. You should check the record in this reference to determine the actual unit and other information about the man's service. We have available Historical Sketch and Roster Volumes on 92 of these units. Check our website to see what other materials may be available for researching the unit. Service records of men from Louisia a are published on DVD. These are images of the Service Record cards compiled by the National Archives plus other rosters and notes we have gathered from our research.
