A fictional exploration of recovery from a personal hell imposed by the state, and the tale of vengeance that follows. Ellaras is ruled by a jealous and ruthless regime of bureaucrats and even the old noble class to which the great VAlyrian family belongs is widely undermined and sabotaged. An Earl of the realm, Reynor has served the Meccanat with brilliance, but excellence of conduct and loyal service are no longer enough to satisfy the High Council. Unscrupulous and jealous of their power, they're prone to acts of treachery even against their most capable advisers. Their target in this vendetta against excellence is Tor, the only son of the great man, but the persecution of one of Ellaras's best and brightest and his subsequent rise to power becomes a legend from which the infuriated regime can never escape.
