Lord Jim is a powerful novel by Joseph Conrad. A young British seaman named Jim abandons his ship Patna in the middle of a storm, fearing the ship will sink and leaving the 800 passengers on board to fend for themselves. He arrives in port to discover the ship has survived and has been brought safely into port. Censured for this action, he disappears into the jungle to attempt to come to terms with himself and his past.
