Three years earlier he lost his wife in a tragic boating accident, but now someone swears they saw her running away from the murder scene. As the mystery unravels, Cole and Cruz find themselves knee-deep in unsolved murders and general mayhem. Industry rivals, jealous actors, simmering family resentments, sexual exploitation, embezzlement, kidnapping, and a distraught German Shepherd dog, all contribute to the deepening mystery. Then the murdered man's daughter disappears. The whole case takes a turn for the worse when something unthinkable happens to Cole's friend, Father Carrol, while he's under his protection.
