Publisher's Synopsis

London's Discovery Walks takes you off the beaten path to discover 21 of the city's lesser known - but no less interesting - areas, many of which are among the most characterful and engaging in London. They include some of the city's most popular residential areas, most of which have been regenerated in recent decades and now offer a fascinating combination of ancient and modern, while managing to retain much of their original charm and character. Although most are in urban areas, the walks also take in a wealth of beautiful parks, gardens, waterways and other tranquil places. Most walks are between 3 and 7 miles in length, with the average around 41/2 miles. However, it's best to allow a half day for the shorter walks and as much as a full day for the longer walks - particularly if you plan to partake of the many excellent pubs, restaurants and cafés along the routes (for your author, a good lunch is a prerequisite of a good walk) - not to mention the many diversions along the way, such as museums, galleries and churches. Our aim is to take the 'scenic route', visiting as many interesting landmarks as possible, rather than simply getting from A to B. Writing London's Discovery Walks has been a fascinating, edifying and enjoyable adventure. We hope that you enjoy these walks as much as we did; all you need is a comfortable pair of shoes, a sense of adventure - and this book!
