This report records the results of an examination by the Northern Ireland Audit Office (NIAO) of the introduction by the Department of Education for Northern Ireland (DENI) and the five Education and Library Boards of Local Management of Schools (LMS). LMS aims to ensure that resources allocated to schools reflect pupil numbers and are deployed in response to local priorities. NIAO examined the background to the decision to introduce LMS in Northern Ireland; the effectiveness of the methodology adopted for its implementation; the arrangements established to monitor and evaluate initiative; and its initial impacts.
