La filosofía por mucho tiempo dejó de lado términos que son nodales en la experiencia humana como lo es lo sagrado, el mito y el símbolo, y se centró más en teorías del conocimiento. Sin embargo, las filosofías no dejan de tener su matiz sagrado, pues cada una de ellas ha querido mostrar o demostrar el talante divino del ser humano desde un aspecto tan básico como lo es la ontología del ser humano, en el que se tiene como máxima creación al ser humano; la política, que fundamenta de manera simbólica en arquetipos sagrados; en la ética podemos encontrar residuos de lo sagrado, pues al desarrollar el ethos se participa en lo divino; en la estética los símbolos son un puente que conecta de nuevo con lo divino, es decir, la experiencia estética hace que se recuerde el estado anterior a la caída.La filosofía de la religión la mayoría de las veces nos muestra rasgos característicos de las religiones primitivas y de las religiones con mayor grado de abstracción, en estos rasgos que se dan en cada una de ellas nos dan personajes claves en toda sociedad como lo es el héroe y como a través de él se desprenden muchos de los comportamientos que tiene la sociedad, se nos muestran ritos que son importantes como el de iniciación para dar paso a edades maduras o edades de conciencia. Sin embargo, los ritos que se hacen y los mitos que se narran a la filosofía de la religión le sirven para mostrar una característica inmanente y a la vez trascendente del ser humano que es: lo sagrado, a partir de esta categoría la filosofía de la religión ha dado importantes contribuciones a la reflexión filosófica como lo fue Sobre la religión de Friedrich Schleiermacher, Lo santo de Rudolf Otto, Fenomenología de la religión de Gerardus Van der Leeuw y qué decir de los grandes aportes que hizo Mircea Eliade como historiador de las religiones.Lo sagrado, el mito y el símbolo se han tratado de manera rigurosa, pero Mircea Eliade logra hacer una síntesis de los autores anteriores (Schleiermacher, Otto, y Van der Leeuw) a él en toda su investigación en la historia de las religiones. Dando así una perspectiva que engloba a los antirreduccionistas del siglo XIX.Lo sagrado, el mito y el símbolo dan demasiado que pensar y desde ellos podemos observar el desenvolvimiento del ser humano en el mundo, en la sociedad, es decir que los comportamientos que tenemos no dejan de tener un sentido religioso, entonces se me hace de sumo interés el sentido que Eliade da a lo religioso, a lo sagrado: lo que es.
