Bookseller Notes

A survey of Abbeys and Priories, conducted 'to determine what direction these communities have taken with regard to the music of Divine worship' (Introduction). The editing of the replies was kept to a minimum to preserve the style of the correspondent, and each institution which did reply was presented with a copy of the completed book. The production was not entirely straightforward, Bill Hughes, of Solo-Type, Upton-upon-Severn, recalling that 'too many nuns were involved in the proof reading [which led to] conflicting instructions, necessitating much re-setting at considerable expense.' (Butcher, The Stanbrook Abbey Press, 1956-1990, Whittington Press)The book was included in the British Book Design and Production Exhibition of 1987.
