Publisher's Synopsis

I am a Navajo boy. Diné 'ashkii nishli. A Navajo boy introduces his parents, brothers and sisters and describes his family's traditional way of life in the nineteen-forties of last century. It centers around a pastoral life with sheep and the processing of the wool by his mother and sisters. His father builds a traditional Navajo home, a hoghan, out of logs, and we are introduced to a sweat lodge and read about other traditional activities. Beautifully illustrated by a Native Navajo artist, Gerald Nailor, the book reminds us of a slower, healthier way of life. It was originally published in 1940 by the educational division of the Bureau of Indian Affairs. This is one of three books, originally created for different reading levels: the primer. It is suited for reading level age 5 plus. A pre-primer and a reader are also available. A coloring book accompanies each book.Bilingual: Navajo/English
