Publisher's Synopsis
Fred Brown recounts his own boisterous childhood, and the earlier life of his parents, Syd and Mary. They met whilst both in service and, despite struggling with Syd's depression, raised a large family. With five brothers and a younger sister, Fred's early years were full of noise and mischief. Whilst fraught with terror for the adults, the war provided numerous distractions for the boys, from air raids to collecting shrapnel. This, along with joining one of the gangs that roamed the surrounding streets, meant that the children were always occupied.
