Publisher's Synopsis

There is a range of discourse markers used in sports newspapers, both commonly used and innovative, which are currently used by sports editors. Although the function of this type of journalism, like all journalism, is to generate a relationship between the author of the journalistic note and the readers of the newspaper, it is necessary to identify how innovative markers contribute to the establishment of a relationship of closeness and identity between the author-reader. To this end, we resorted, within the range of definitions of discourse markers, to the proposal of Zorraquino and Portolés (1999), who mention that discourse markers are invariable linguistic units that have a common purpose in discourse: to guide, according to their different morphosyntactic, semantic and pragmatic properties, the inferences that are made in communication. Based on this, a linguistic and statistical analysis of the newspapers Depor and Líbero, two of the main national sports newspapers, was carried out during the periods 2013I, 2013II, 2013III and 2014I.
