There is no longer any serious doubt that daily lifestyle decisions and practices exert a profound impact on short and long–term health and quality of life. Scientific and medical advances over the last 20 years and particulary over the last 5 years have solidified the evidence that positive lifestyle measures are vitally important to good health. Whlie this body of literature has grown stronger and its breadth wider, keeping up with it, and assimilating it into clinical practice, has presented a unique and seemingly almost insurmountable challenge to the average health care practitioner.
As this literature has gown more complex, and the implications more important to the daily practice of medicine, a need has arisen to bring the key findings and disciplines together in a major textbook. This is the fundamental goal and challenge of Lifestyle Medicine.
