Publisher's Synopsis
A victim of rape, Sally Diner-O'Hare, thereafter seeks happiness in erotic personal relationships while fighting an uphill battle to find an identity as a person. As a runaway Sally pursues a career as a portrait painter living in Greenwich Village, a lifestyle that leads her into a love affair with Jimmy Facer who she tricks into getting her pregnant. Her search for happiness depends on whether she will abort their baby. She returns to her hometown in the coal region of northeastern Pennsylvania to kill her insane father, incarcerated for the murder of her mother, which leads to confronting her assailant. Following her return to New York City and then expatriation to Ireland she takes counsel with a therapist in Dublin and ends up a changed woman living in Israel.
