Publisher's Synopsis
One of the most popular French operas of the 1790s, Les Visitandines held the stage throughout the first third of the 19th century. Its subject matter, which portrays a religious order in a disparaging manner, was one reason for its g reat popularity during the Revolution. Another attractive aspect was the simple tunefulness and fine craftsmanship of the airs, four of which furnished the melodies for numerous patriotic songs of the Revolution.
