Victor-marie hugo* was born in Besancon, Feb. Ruary 26, 1802. His father, General Hugo, was born at Nancy in 1773, and was the son of a joiner of that city. His mother's maiden name was Sophie Trebuchet; she was the daughter of a bourgeois of Nantes, and was married to General Hugo in Paris in 1796.
