Publisher's Synopsis
This book contains a revision of the Byzantine Services for several reasons. Overall, it is formatted for more transparency as to allow full congregational participation. Where traditionally Cantors and choirs gave responses and sang the various hymns, the congregation is now invited to participate. The priest's prayers are always said aloud, so the faithful can fully understand the sequence of the Liturgy. Most of the priest's formerly silent prayers have been deleted; instead, the priest is invited to sing or pray along with the congregation. Many repetitions and somewhat antiquated dialogues have been obliterated or shortened. Repetitive litanies and readings have been simplified or deleted.
