With numerous illustrations, Biographical Sketches and portraits of the Members of parliament, Provosts, Distinguished Ministers, &c, &c; also, an Appendix of Charters, Deeds and Documents, relating to the Burgh. Prompted by the proposed absorption of Leith with its neighbour, Edinburgh, the author - solicitor to the Leith council in the latter part of the Nineteenth Century - was able to access the original documents, and to supplement these with additional material for contemporary accounts. The result is a not insubstantial account of a foremost port in the history of Scotland. First published in 1897.
