Publisher's Synopsis

In 1994, Avis Freeman, ex-LGGS pupil and teacher, decided there should be a book about the iconic and much-loved Leigh Girls' Grammar School. She asked old girls to send her their memories. Many responded but, despite her enthusiasm, Avis could never find the time to write the book. She kept all the letters and would ask at the Old Girls' Reunion Dinner each year for further memories. Almost twenty-five years later, she realised the youngest ex-LGGS girls would now be in their fifties. Unless she acted quickly, she would lose the opportunity to capture any more memories of staff and students. So she got together with former LGGS pupil, local historian and writer Julie McKiernan, in a race against time, and what emerged was a warm, affectionate and moving story of Leigh's most-loved school.
This history is a labour of love.
