Publisher's Synopsis
Lectio Divina is designed to encourage a third approach to Bible reading - reading the Bible simply to experience its power and authority. It is an excellent practice for all Christians - regardless of what church they attend. "Lectio Divina" is Latin for "divine reading," and it is a practice of scriptural reading, prayer, and meditation originated by the Benedictine order of the Roman Catholic Church. It is intended to promote communion with God and to increase the knowledge of God's Word. It does not treat the scriptures as texts to be studied, but as authoritative instruction.
