Daniel Defoe (als Daniel Foe vermutlich Anfang 1660 in London -5. Mai 1731 in London) war ein englischer Kaufmann, Journalist und Schriftsteller in der Fruhzeit der Aufklarung, der durch seinene Romane Robinson Crusoe und Moll Flanders weltberuhmt wurde. Defoe gilt damit als ein Begrunder des englischen Romans.
