Publisher's Synopsis

Excerpt from Le Serf

The date of the story is in the reign of Charles VII. Of France, between 1440 and 1450. The allusion to printing as 'the new German art' shows that the time must be after 1440 the mention of an English raid near Paris would indicate a time before 1450, or at least before 1453, when the defeat and death of Talbot at Castillon put an end to the English attempts to recover the lost French possessions.
