Une observation en guise d'enseignement: les bourgeois puent, tout comme le faisait le lit de sa propre m�re d�prav�e. Des rayons de soleil pourtant envahissent ses jours, m�me si une nuit profonde - celle de la mort - enserre un jeune amant, Monsieur Georges, qui tr�passe dans le bonheur d'avoir connu l'amour dans les bras de C�lestine. �mue, elle appr�cie la beaut� du sentiment absolu et porte des fleurs m�lancoliques sur la tombe de l'amant la beaut� pure de l'�tre. L'existence pourtant ne fait pas l'impasse sur des situations plus inavouables et infiniment condamnables: C�lestine pourrait se lib�rer de sa condition au prix d'une alliance avec un homme de peu de foi, violeur et assassin d'enfant qui l'attire, malgr� cela ou bien � cause de cela. L'offre r�v�e? Se prostituer dans un caf� du Havre: d'une servilit� sociale face aux ma�tres de ce monde, la jeune femme passerait � l'ali�nation du commerce avec la chair et le sexe.
