At once whimsical and tragic, Hill's Comic alter ego finds himself representing less of an idealized version of the author, than a painful reflection of his own weaknesses. But these weaknesses are not exclusive, yet more so endemic to a population of likewise dreamers and wayward souls, themselves, on their own journey to adventure.
