Publisher's Synopsis

Based on real people. Based on real events.
The Conyers Street Gang has been evacuated again. The threat of Hitler's bombing raids on their home city of Liverpool remains too great. In the last two years they have spent night after night in air raid shelters as death falls from the German bombers overhead.
Suddenly, the gang find themselves in a different country: Wales. Nothing seems to make sense to them. From the strange language to the odd-shaped ball the local kids play with, everything is different. It leaves them confused and frightened.
Fourteen-year-old John Boden remains leader of the gang made up of his brother Tom, sisters Chrissie and Mary and their friends, GeeGee and Philly Brown. John has to look after his gang but he is immediately taken from them - he is grounded by their new guardian, the horrible Mr Roberts.
Tom, as second-in-command, can't keep the gang together as he has a job. Philly Brown is the next oldest, but he is no leader. John escapes, and gets in with the wrong crowd. The gang starts to break up.
Then the American GIs arrive, and that sets off a series of events that puts the Conyers Street Gang in its most perilous situation yet. Can Tom figure out what's going on before it is too late? Can the gang stop an awful crime from being committed? Can they ever get away from Mr Roberts and his horrendous daughters, Angharad and Myfanwy?
In a land of dragons, the Conyers Street Gang are lost and afraid. Nothing is at it seems. But John, Tom, Chrissie and Mary, and GeeGee and Philly Brown know the must do what is right. It puts them on a path to danger the like of which they have never before known...
