The successive promotions of Otho Hamilton in the 4oth were: Lieutenant, August 9, 1718; capt.-lieut., July 8, 1734; Captain, September 3, 1739 Major, January 30, 1745 - 6. In the Commission Books in the War Office, under date of July 8, 1734, Otho Hamilton, Esq., is appointed capt.-lieut. Of that company in our Regiment of Foot sometime commanded by Richard Philipps, Esq., whereof he himself is Captain.
