Publisher's Synopsis
Was it really through the rectum that the Homo sapiens would be entering the new millennium: Homosexuality, heterosexuality, bisexuality, no-sexuality, which tendency will define this new Super Homo? it all amounts to a large metaphor for the human condition, making the spoof very much a part of the story. L'Europeano, The European by all mean, is a full matter of solitude. Equally contended by Los Angeles and New York, molding its characters into as many enclaves of modern forms of loneliness, say cell-phones, television, computers, all intended to make us believe we're in touch where we have never been as far apart. My only defense against this unexpected state of affairs was to write the novel by myself, an exhilarating experience it proved to be, as I never lived as intensely as when I was hands on Ravic, Sioux, Natasha, Victorious, and Spencer, withstanding the bitter feeling of knowing how they would all but disappear together with the time they belonged to, vanishing with their own century, as none of them will survive 9/11, for nothing returned to the way it once was and nothing will ever do My long imbroglio, focuses on last century's ultimate decade which coincided with the start of a new millennium, a moment we all cheered with rivers of champagne, in spite 9 11 had just moved beyond its wings. This story begins as far as possible from where it unfolds. It is in Hungary where two twins are born, and since the start is clear that both Ravic and Victorious Luna are not supposed to meet: Life is just a breath away only to keep them apart, obliging to the will of a mysterious karma It begins with Ravic, still living in France at the time, is facing a corpse on his operating table at the Paris hospital where he's working. Was it an accident? We never get to know. Almost forced into accepting an invitation from an old friend to come to America, once In LA he becomes a much disputed surgeon by both his patients and the glitzy creatures of universe Hollywood. With him we breathe the air of the operating theaters where one lives and dies not differently from a real war zone. Then his brother, Victorious, a flamboyant gypsy fiddler whose existence had remained completely unbeknownst to Ravic, will also join in in this long tale. With him we can't help but to become a string of his violin whether he performs a passionate sonata to Tasha, or takes the Carnegie Hall by storm and with it the whole of New York. Of course we will also meet Sioux, a Beverly Hills wild rodeo beauty queen in her efforts to become a first class bullfighter. It is Mexico to the full, while at many miles distance, Tasha, a swanky Russian princess who never ends to bewitch friends, clients, and lovers, obliges to the diktats of a life that wants her to be a hooker while letting her indulge into her aristocratic blood, perhaps a drop too many of it. At one point, Ravic's pal, Spencer, also comes on board, and with him the crowd of his funky magazine, the Oh Blimey. In this caravanserai, characters and occasional guests keep mingling with characters and guests from other parties namely The Bonfire of the Vanities, as the people are the same and so the places and so is the genre Although this American saga was conceived as a piece of fiction, more than one link will take you from fiction to reality, in addition to 9/11 that is. The outbreak of AIDS in California in the days following the death of actor Rock Hudson is certainly one of those links: the panic stricken people in front of a scourge with no end in sight, new forms of discrimination implemented by a frightened society, the mandatory dependence on condoms - it was either a condom or forget it - not a woman didn't carry one in her purse - From San Francisco the notorious bath houses propagated the victory of the anus in its the long war with the uterus; and that was more than an unsettling.
