Publisher's Synopsis
For 57 years, the Leon County Reading Council (LCRC) has been a force for promoting and recognizing excellence in literacy in Leon County. A non-profit organization composed of teachers, school administrators, and other individuals who are interested in promoting literacy, the LCRC is an affiliate of the Florida Reading Association (FRA) and the International Literacy Association (ILA). One of our keystone endeavors is the annual K-12 Narrative Writing Contest. Students from public, private, and home schools are eligible to enter the contest. The 2017 contest attracted multiple entries that demonstrate the talent of the area's young authors. We are pleased to present the winning entries in this anthology. We gratefully acknowledge the assistance of the following community partners, without whom our second annual professionally published anthology would not have been possible: M.R. Street, owner of Turtle Cove Press, who donated her production and publishing services; Barbara Psimas, a local artist and literacy supporter who created the cover art especially for this book; and members of the Tallahassee Writers Association, who volunteered as judges.
