A broad name for a multitude of stitch patterns that are produced in a same manner is brioche. Both a slipped stitch and a yarn-over, which are knitted together on the return row, are the basic building blocks of all such patterns, according to Barbara G. Walker in her book "Treasury of Knitting Patterns." Even though this specific pattern is written as two rows, it actually only has one row repetition, with the first row only being done at the start of the pattern. The terms "double brioche," "waffle brioche," and "syncopated brioche" are only a few of the many names for brioche stitches.
