The Vadors through ferocity and courage manage to hold on and more and more children escape to join them. Then from one of the new recruits Tom learns about a girl who is imprisoned in a solitary cave by the Kraal who no other human is allowed to see. A girl who hates the Kraal so much that she screams when she sees them...The novel is full of action but concentrates more on the personalities of the children who have to learn to form a society without the guidance of adults, how to organize, to establish discipline and all the problems of relationships and sex. A heart-warming novel with many nail biting scenes and some very tragic moments.
