Publisher's Synopsis
This work, a novel, was written during 1939 and 1940, a turbulent period in East and South East Asia and reflects Thai nationalist and patriot Pridi Banomyong's attempts to attain the goals of neutrality and peace amid threats of imperialism and fascism. While Banomyong desired peace, the novel makes clear that he believed in a "just war" -- although one that had as limited an effect on the people as possible.
