Publisher's Synopsis
After the Crisis of 2084, majority rule seems to fall into the Ambit's hands. In an effort to prevent the world from repeating history, the Ambit bans anything that might restore the arrogance of mankind, including medicine, technology and even eating meat. But after thirty years, humanity's invariably flawed nature corrupts even the most well-intended, leaving the Ambit's society disturbingly distorted. Outside the Ambit, an alternate world exists where rebellious survivors of the Crisis aim to return the world to its former glory at whatever cost necessary. Only the presence of mankind's newest and most deadly adversary keeps the Outside from rising up and taking over. And while the Ambit safely thrives on control and power, the Outside is run freely by violence and fear. Britt, a young widow and mother, is unsettlingly content to blend into the gray background of the Ambit until she is wrongfully accused of the unthinkable, instantly banishing her to the Outside. But before she can even begin to grasp the reality of her situation and separation from her children, she is thrown into the whirlwind of the Outside and the dangers that lurk around every corner. Only her newly found moxie, determination and intellect can lead her to discover the intended nature of mankind and drive her to bring balance to the two worlds that she and her loved ones are caught between.
