Publisher's Synopsis
Peddicord (1833-1905) had worked as a civil engineer on the railroads prior to enlisting to serve in the Confederate States Army in 1861. He was taken prisoner in July 1863 and spent the remainder of the war in various prisons until his release in June 1865. In later life he took to farming, followed by a variety of other professions before becoming postmaster in Palmyra, Missouri where he had lived since 1867. He attended nearly all the reunions of United Confederate Veterans, including that held in the year of his death, and at one time served as second in command of the Palmyra Grays, Missouri State Guard. This appreciation of his life compiled by his sister includes a journal he wrote for her at the end of 1865 recounting his war experiences, together with a brief history of the Peddicord family's background and an account of his life after the war. First published in 1908 and illustrated with four photographic portraits.
