Publisher's Synopsis
This is an interactive software package for a microcomputer with disc storage comprising a basic package (disc and text cards). The interactive nature of the software allows the user to select specific areas to study and to examine instrumental designs in a stepwise fashion.;Its purpose is to teach or reinforce the teaching of instrumental aspects of infrared spectrometry and it includes animated diagrams of a monochromator, an interferometer, a double-beam spectrophotometer, a non-dispersive analyser and a Fourier transform spectrometer.;The package is menu-driven, robust and user friendly with four main sections. Flexibility in the programming allows the use of sections or sub-sections in any sequence.;The interactive nature of the package allows the user to study diagrams that are built up on the screen in a stepwise fashion, and to control the animated sequences. Included in section 1 are diagrams of a diffraction grating based monochromator and a Michelson interferometer. The principle of interferometry is illustrated by displaying a set of interferograms derived from sources of varying characteristics. Pairs of these may be viewed simultaneously for comparison purposes. Sections 2, 3 and 4 include diagrams of different types of infrared instrument displayed in such a manner that the functioning of each can be easily observed and studied.;The four main menu options are: The Components of Infrared Spectrometers; Double-Beam Spectrophotometers; Single-Beam Filter Photometers and Non-Dispersive Analysers; Fourier Transform Spectrometers
