Publisher's Synopsis
"Life seems to drag away good intentions, pulling at one's pride toward heroes and legends. In man's foolishness, they want only someone to remember them, for deeds they have done; you know stupid things tend to happen when men strive for greatness. He is no different, I choose this life and I choose to love Duncan, Eron has his own path and his own tasks to do. I choose to teach and heal those in need; his path may lead him from us, into something bigger. He is Duncan's friend and has always been, I love him for that, but as I said, he is no different from any other man." she watched Eron's figure as it disappeared into the village.
"Though he has found love here, she has not claimed him yet, but soon, for now he wants to be with Duncan, afraid that things we have seen will come to pass, before we can do anything to stop it. That is his worst nightmare; he will go, if only so that he is one day remembered."
"Why did we survive?" Kayna smiled and glanced at the walls of the cave, and then back to Paul as she chose her words.
"Why does the fish swim in the river, why does the wolf howl at the moon? Why does the sun rise in the east, and set in the west? Why do men fear what they don't understand? Why does a bear sleep through winter?" She watched him as he shrugged. "It is the way life is, it was set into motion eons ago, and with each turn of the planet, another day written in the book of time. Sometimes things do not have an explanation for us to explain them. "And then what? What is the prize in the end?" Duncan watched Nicolas ask; Eron looked up and smiled.
"Our freedom and peace as we have never known, Joy of the flesh, and soul. Life filled in lazy wonder." Duncan grinned and patted Eron's shoulder.
"I'll go for that, but for now, courage leads us to the battlefield my friends, and courage allows us to dream our dreams of freedom and peace. The freedoms we go to defend lets us live with those dreams we have of freedom. That being the reward we seek to protect, this night. It is the way we shall always be, free to dream and dream of that very freedom." Duncan spoke and they started toward the lodges in the distance. Kayna and Duncan find themselves in a fast changing world, where modern day technologies destroy everything they know, they learn to fight and struggle in this life, with everything changing can they learn to survive, the chemical warfare now reaped upon the earth. Can the misfit group they find themselves with come together and fight a evil in the new world where old magic meets new? Can their love last the dawning of their time?
