Publisher's Synopsis
I invite you to take a peek and see what's behind this fabulous book!
As a former Girls Elementary Teacher and passionate educator for many years, I realized that our students spend hours and hours delving into their textbooks, mastering academic skills like Mathematics and Language Arts. It's incredible, however, when it came to vacation days and off time and students were found outside the structured classroom settings, problems arose. Some brilliant and sweet children met up with real challenges. Either it was social hardships like how to relate to their peers or unhealthy friendships. Or others had emotional struggles where they had self-confidence issues; they were bullied or simply wallowed in pain from all their intense emotions and were uncertain how to go about it.
This void in our school education was the seed that led to this crucial life skills workbook to be born. Its title, "KAYLA'S RELATIONSHIPS WITH SELF AND OTHERS," truly explains its mission. The workbook was created as an all-encompassing book, yet in a concise format. Therefore, it easily fits into any school curriculum. It has twenty lessons with two practice sections per skill. It is divided into two chapters. Unit 1 is a beautiful section on self-growth, building up a self-image, as well as positive thinking, navigating deep emotions, assertiveness, compromising, and how to get rid of the bully, just to list a few concepts. Then Unit 2 is on friendships and how to create long-lasting relationships built through empathy, respect, and trust. Practice is also done on complimenting and dialoging. These powerful skills will enable our young students to enjoy a high quality of life. It's a priceless gift you can shower the new generation with!
My objective is that students will learn how to become more content and better communicators through using self-growth skills and techniques to improve their relationships with themselves and others. This will prevent many negative episodes and emotions.
Another benefit when kids master the social and emotional skills is that they come out calmer and more at peace with themselves and their surroundings. Often times they'll even excel in academics more than before because they are not distracted by their social or emotional concerns.
Originally, the book was set up for group settings where there can be lots of sharing and children learning from one another. However, if you're a parent homeschooling or just want to give your children something very valuable, this can easily be adjusted, and you will enjoy it too!
You will find the Teacher's Edition a helpful tool. It has answers to the practice sections, some nice teaching ideas, and short puppet show plays to enhance the learning experiences!
