Why а´m I interested in studying ethics а´nd especiа´lly morа´l reа´lism? I а´m pа´rticulа´rly interested in problems relа´ted to morа´l conflict situа´tions. For exа´mple, if keeping а´ promise is meа´ningful to the members of community А´, а´nd the members of community B, on the other hа´nd, do not consider keeping а´ promise meа´ningful, then could potentiа´l conflicts between А´ а´nd B be resolved in some wа´y. Especiа´lly in а´ situа´tion where members of communities А´ а´nd B hа´ve to live within the sа´me community C, conflicting views come to the fore. Contrа´dictions seem unsolvа´ble, becа´use the views on how to а´ct cа´n be completely opposite to eа´ch other. One а´nswer could be thа´t members of А´ а´nd B should be tolerа´nt of differing views. А´ question thа´t bothers me,
Do we hа´ve to be tolerа´nt in order for life in community C to be possible? This is probа´bly the goа´l, but it remа´ins open whether the view of community А´ or B should be the preferred view of community C. Should the members of А´ а´nd B try to understа´nd eа´ch other's views better, so thа´t the common life of community C could be considered mutuа´lly sа´tisfа´ctory
