Publisher's Synopsis
In May 1946, the Shetland Youth Council recieved letters from the chairmen of the Shetland and Orkney football associations, suggesting the establishment of an annual junior inter-county sports contest, to take place in each county on alternate years. It was also recommended that the participants should be from both counties and under 19 years of age, and that the contests should include: football; hockey; swimming; athletic events; and boxing. The aim was to develop the physical education of the youth of both counties.;The first Junior Inter-County Shetland versus Orkney contest took place in September 1947 in the Gilbertson Park. Including records and statistics, this book provides a chronological account of the contest, from 1947 to 1997, in celebration of its 50th anniversary.
