The Tragedy of Julius Caesar is another historical tragedy written by William Shakespeare, most likely performed first in 1599. It is one of several plays he wrote based on events from Roman history. Other characters, particularly Brutus, speak many more lines than the title character and the play focuses on Brutus' struggle between conflicting demands of honor, patriotism, and friendship. Many of the lines in the play are very well known, including "Et tu, Brute?" and "Friends, Romans, countrymen, lend me your ears!"
