Publisher's Synopsis
This book is dedicated to the participation of Jews in the development of Austrian parliamentarism and their confrontations with anti-Semitism as a strategy of parliamentary politics. The diverse work of Jewish parliamentarians in the House of Representatives and the mansion of the Reichsrat as well as in the National Council of the First Republic is made visible on the basis of a collective biography and an analysis of parliamentary debates. The study also looks into the transformations of anti-Semitism in parliament and the resistance that has developed against it. The book thus represents a political science contribution at the interface between research on Judaism, anti-Semitism and parliamentarianism.
