Peter's world is a lawless society of darkness and violence. At 21, he has no hope for the future. Life inside the mountain caves of Auchmeros is hard; food is scarce. There is no protection for the weak and only the strong survive.
Just before his initiation into a violent gang, a stranger who glows from within approaches Peter. Andrew offers to lead Peter to a better place. He claims there is a world outside the caves filled with light and plenty of food. Contrary to his fear, Peter decides to find out for himself and follow Andrew.
In Thélo, Peter discovers light, fresh fruit and vegetables, friendship, and the gracefully attractive, Karis! But can Peter live according to Thélo's lifeguides? Does he, a descendant of the king's enemies, have the right to enjoy such a place?
