Publisher's Synopsis
Jodie Mae, a young woman, is desperate to break free of the stigma of "white trash" and makes sacrifices few women would consider. Eventually, that determination brings her a head-on confrontation with the male dominated culture of 40s & 50s Mississippi. She takes them on, "I'll run for sheriff," and nearly loses her life in the process.
She falls in love, twice, but love takes a back seat to her need to "be somebody" to live as an equal not second class.
