A great deal has been written about the brave, hardy men who "conquered" the great western prairies, but not as much about the women who worked alongside them and how they helped settle the plains. This praise is long overdue. Jemima's Story, from the perspective of one woman's life, shows how much is owed to the countless women who shared the difficulties of those days and how they overcame them.
As Jemima's daughter, I experienced some of those early homestead days. I remember some of the hardships, the work we did in the barn, in the field, gardening, tending the animals, and cooking and feeding people. We women kept the operation running.
