Bedeutend niedriger ist der an den Tempel sich auschiiessende Theil des Reliets (h. 0,485n1), desgleicheu von geringerer Tiefe. Es ist eine Art Stoa mit Gebalk und Stirnziegel von einer Ante abgeschlossen. Die rechte Nebenseite (br. Ist auf Taf. I rechts abgebildet. Auf der Vorderseite des Reliefs erkennt man links eine Vereinigung von drei Gestalten, eine weibliche Gestalt sitzt auf einem Sessel und halt mit beiden Handen einen runden Gegenstand auf den Kulcen. Im Hinter grunde ist die bekannte Gruppe des Asklepios und der Hygieia, unten sieht man durch den Mortel') die Schlange, die sich wohl sicher an dem jetzt nicht mehr sichtbaren Stube des Heilgottes entwickelte. Die sitzende Gottin ist Demeter, der Gegenstand in ihren Handen sicher keine Schale, denn die Stellung der Hande deutet an, dass er einen Deckel hat, auch scheint die Schwere desselben eine Stutze durch zwei Hande veranlasst zu haben. Nachtraglich sehe ich, dass bereits F urtwiingler, Sammlung Saboumli' zu Taf. XXXII der Annahme, dass der Gegenstand eine Schale sei, widersprocheu hat, er erkennt den namlichen Gegenstand, den man bisher Kommaass nannte. Auch hierin bin ich mit ihm zusammengetmtien. Der dankeuswerthe Hinweis auf 0. J ahn's Abhandlung uber die Cista Mystica*) belehrt dariiber, dass dieses angebliche Kommaass eben eine im Dienste der Demeter ge brauchte xiurr; ist. Wir haben auf dem vorliegenden Relief znei Kisten, die eine im Besitze der Gottheit, aus der anderen werden ihr gerade Gaben gebracht. Es mag dies seltsam erscheinen, erklart sich aber daraus, dass die Kiste ein fur Demeter typisches Attribut war, und deshalb konnte der Steinmetz eine zweite, ebenfalls typische Ge stalt auf dem Relief anbringen.
