Publisher's Synopsis

The future looks bleak for Jack Dawkins, The Artful Dodger, as he languishes in Newgate Prison awaiting transportation. Then a small miracle occurs, thanks to the good offices of Oliver Twist and his mentor, Mr Brownlow, and soon the Dodger is on the Romney Marshes. Resistant to his new surroundings at first, he is intent on escape until a chance encounter with a madman on the marsh results in a new-found friendship with the charismatic Abel Garnett, an ex-army sergeant -- and a burgeoning of the heart-strings at the sight of the lovely Lysette, a young French girl in Abel's household. He soon partners Abel in a reckless venture that puts them both on the wrong side of the law. When wet weather sets in with a vengeance, their best-laid plans are upset, and the long arm of retribution reaches out with terrifying consequences. Jack is soon on the move once more as he and Abel flee to France where further adventures await and Jack, for once, finds himself on the right side of the law. Napoleon is back and he's marching on Brussels! But so is the Artful Dodger!
