Giorgio inherited two businesses on the Italian Riviera, one from his father and one from his uncle. Due to a long-standing feud, the two brothers had each set up a beach business side by side. This proved useful for Giorgio because it meant he could easily combine them into one business. He had to borrow money and mortgaged his house to pay inheritance taxes, before combining the businesses, but he finally managed to open his new resort.
Enter Maggie, an American tourist on holiday and only in town for two weeks. She and Giorgio instantly feel something for each other, but with them living on different continents, how can this work?
She and Giorgio have a brief, but intense affair, before Maggie eventually returned to the States. The couple have agreed to have a long-distance relationship, rather than lose each other, but this is never easy.
Maggie and Giorgio's lives continue miles apart, kept alive by letters, until they can meet again.
